MARCIA B. HOLMES
Marcia Holmes lives in Mandeville, but was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi, home of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, where she recently exhibited one of her botanical paintings with the Degas Pastel Society. Following in her Mother's footsteps and garnering that wealth of inspiration, Marcia started painting in 1999 after a career as a corporate C.P.A. She attended Ole Miss and USM, acquiting a Masters in Accounting.
Primarily a Pastelist, her current work, in both abstract and representational paintings, concentrates on nature in landscapes, waterscapes. Many new paintings have accompanying poetry as in a newly released piece Birds Eye View...where a phrase of the poem "a myriad and more" is inscripted in what the artist calls "quirky writing" in a painterly manner on the face of the painting. You will find the poems when you double click the images on this web site.
A respected writer, juror and artist, Robert Carsten, writes "Whether her attentions be a bouquet of flowers, or a wayside stream bed, a figure, or the majestic live oak, Marcia Holmes creates energetic and eloquent, painterly passages. Her pastels consistently achieve a rhythmic sense of movement. Holmes can turn the slightest gesture or gentlest breeze through a flower's petals into an intricate ballet of form, strong, graceful and mesmerizing." (See the Oct. 2007 issue of THE PASTEL JOURNAL)
